Alcohol and diabetes. (New Year’s Eve and Carnival)

After drinking alcohol, the risk of hypoglycemia increases, remember to take regular meals. Remember!!! Never drink alcohol without food. When you drink alcohol, especially if it is high alcohol, or if your drinking is accompanied by dancing, then eat or drink extra carbohydrates, inject less insulin than usual, and test your blood glucose often. Never go to bed without first consuming an additional carbohydrate-rich snack. If you drink too much you won’t notice when your blood glucose is too low. Remember that your liver is busy inactivating alcohol and will not be able to release glucose to save you when you are hypoglycemic (alcohol is metabolized in the liver, this causes inhibition of hepatic glucose production). Your friends may think you’re staggering because you’re drunk, while you’re hypoglycemic and need help. Be careful!!! Tell your friends that you have diabetes and always carry your diabetes ID card or card.
