On Monday 18.07 together with the Family I went to the Czech side to the town of Mala Upa. Beautiful place, picturesquely located cottages. Well, simply a fairy tale. We got there by car from the Okraj Pass. Backpack on the ridge and on our way.
We set off along the trail to Sněžka with the plan that we would reach the Jelenka hut. It’s about 4 km uphill from the town. There were really few tourists, wonderful. We were accompanied by beautiful sunny weather but still before the heat that came the next day.
Every 650 meters or so, we were able to take a moment to catch our breath, sit at a bench and admire the magnificent nature and scenery.
We hiked once up once down. My pace was not dizzying. I climbed slowly until I heard the characteristic three Dexcom signals. And this is where I made a mistake because I had not prepared for the effort. I had far too few sweets. I continued walking eating candy until the team told me to sit down and wait until they returned from Yelenka with something sweet.
I can honestly say I could not complain. Rest, mountains, perfect temperature. They told me to wait so I waited. Of course, I was not left alone. About 30 minutes passed. Monica and Tom brought me a large strawberry chocolate and Kofola to drink.
A half success because two members of the expedition reached their goal 🙂
By the way, in Yelenka you can not pay by card, but they honor zlotys. I recharged my batteries and went down to the town. My route looked like this:
In return, I invited the Family to a Czech restaurant for a small lunch.
I ignored my illness and got sick of it. So, it is important to remember that if you are facing exertion especially when you are more likely to lead a sedentary lifestyle take a wheelbarrow of glucose with you.
