Poland among world leaders in research on metabolic disorders

Poland has joined the world leader in the study of metabolic disorders. Researchers at the Maciej Nałęcz Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Military Institute of Aerospace Medicine are using the first device in Poland to see metabolic processes at the cellular level.

The first clinical laboratory for the application of magnetic resonance technology together with a hyperpolarizer has been established. The cutting-edge technology has created new opportunities in conducting non-invasive biochemical research in human disease processes.

The hyperpolarizer (called SPINlab) improves the sensitivity of MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) by more than 20000 times over traditional MRI. There are only a few devices of this type in the world, including three in Europe.
